She saw time in 17 games, making 15 starts on the year. Chelsea and the Tigers held opponents to 24 goals scored in 92 shots on goal in her junior season, leading the way for Pacific to take more shots on goal with 132. In conference action, Gomes and the rest of Pacific's defense were so powerful that Pacific was able to out-score its defense 13 goals to 10. Offensively Gomes took one shot during the 2008 season in the 1-1 2OT tie at UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 17. In addition to excelling on the field, Chelsea also did so in the classroom as she was one of three Tigers named to the Academic All-Big West team for the 2008 fall semester.<b>2007 (Sophomore):</b><br>The lone starting underclassman to start in the 2007 Tigers' defense, Chelsea played in all 18 contests for Pacific while missing only one start during her sophomore season. Playing a pivotal role in the Tigers' central defense, Gomes helped lead a defense that relinquished just 17 goals on the season, the second-lowest single season total in program history. On the year, Pacific's defense racked up eight shutouts as it gave up just 0.89 goals per game. Offensively, Gomes took three shots, taking a single shot in three different contests.<b>2006 (Freshman):</b><br>Forced into the starting lineup for the beginning of the season, Chelsea proved to be one of the Tigers' fiercest defenders in just her first season of play as she helped the Tigers to eight shutouts on the season, including a record six straight shutouts to begin the year. In her first year, Gomes played in 14 contests while starting 13 games. Offensively, Gomes took four shots in her freshman campaign.<b>High School:</b><br>Chelsea graduated from Tesoro High School in Las Flores, Calif., where she was a two-sport athlete, earning two letters in track and field and four letters in soccer. Playing in the Titans' backfield, Gomes was an All-Pacific Coast League defender in each of her final three seasons. Tesoro won the league championship during Chelsea's sophomore season, a feat it would repeat two seasons later. For her play during her senior season, Gomes was named her team's most valuable player. Off the field, Chelsea was a US Army National Scholar Athlete in 2006 and a member of the National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation.<b>Club:</b><br>Gomes played for the SC Blues and ISC Strikers during her club career prior to coming to Pacific.<b>Personal:</b><br>Born in Laguna Beach, Calif., she is the daughter of David and Gale Gomes. Chelsea has one younger brother, Garrett. She plans to graduate with a degree in business.
